Questions, Round One: Working For Pleasure

What if everyone just got to do what they loved?

I don’t think I should speculate. I don’t want to pretend that I have the answers. However, there is no reason not to ask the questions – I think we should always ask the questions, even if their answers are unknowable.

What if everyone just got to do what they loved? Would we all, then, be happy? Would there be some jobs that just never got done? How different would our world be? Would it change for the better, or simply take a different turn for the worse? Would some people then become tired of the thing they loved, and want something else? If that’s so, did they ever love it to begin with?

Would it be better if we all got to do what we loved? Is there any real value to the struggle that keeps us from the things we want most – greater, that is, than if more of a measure of satisfaction came easily to us?
