Almost Job

Interview this morning with The Skill Bureau in Boston. I can’t say it went perfectly, as even with preparation I sometimes struggle to articulate my answers, but overall I believe the answers I gave were good (although that phrasing is inadequate…), and I certainly didn’t do anything inappropriate. The man who did my interview was very pleasant and seemed encouraging in regard to me being placed somewhere… wherever that may be.

By nature, interviewing for a temp-type agency is slightly different from a regular job interview – because they want to get a sense of your abilities and personality to find jobs you would fit, rather than discover if you are the right fit for a particular job. Obviously, you should still prepare and act and dress professionally. But, like I said … it’s different. That may be mostly because by the time they asked me to come in for an interview, they had already decided to add me to their pool.

Also, I was filling out a tax form as part of the paperwork they gave me to complete, and I have to say that people like me – that is, people who make nearly no money – should not have to pay taxes. I suppose this is a moot observation, since when I do my taxes I always end up getting money back, rather than paying, but considering how much has been taken out of my paychecks over the years – most significantly at the library – I really should be getting more. I’m too young to actually need whatever it’s for (also covered under my mom’s health insurance…), so it basically feels like someone’s stealing from me, but somehow, it’s legal. But I guess that’s just the price we pay for “freedom” …
